Google’s annual recap of the top searches on the platform is out. Like every year, Google’s ‘Year in Search’ for 2021 lists the topics, trends, personalities, news and more that people searched for during the year. And as ‘Year in Search 2021′ shows, Indians’ love for cricket is reflected in online searches not only in the country, but globally as well. While IPL 2021 led Google Searches in India, searches related to India-Australia cricket series topped globally during the year 2021. Apart from the India-Australia series, the India-England series also ranked in the top 5.
Every year, Google’s ‘Year in Search’ revisits the top search trends of the year in India and 70 other countries. What did the world google in 2021?
Cricket has been at the forefront of the charts this year, which also includes basketball (as the NBA) and football (as in the Euro Cup). The most searched news content was followed by Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, AMC stock and COVID vaccination campaign. The list also includes a cryptocurrency called Dogecoin and GME stock.
Most Searched Actors and Athletes
Alec Baldwin had a year full of horrific events that made him top the list of most searched actors, followed by Pete Davidson, who rose to limelight following his relationship with Kim Kardashian. The list included Aryan Khan after his raffle with NCB and then Zeena Carano, who rose to fame with Hollywood films like Fast and the Furious. The last contender on the list is American actor Armie Hammer.
The most searched athlete list is topped by Danish football player Christian Eriksson followed by famous American golfer Tiger Woods. American gymnast Simone Biles took third place, followed by British tennis player Emma Radukanu. The last place on this list was occupied by American footballer Henry Rugs III.
Most Searched Food & Games
The most searched food this year was biriya tacos followed by nasi goreng and feta pasta. The last two spots were occupied by the charcuterie board and the Japanese dish shogayaki.
PopCat topped the list of most searched games, followed by FIFA 22 and Battlefield 2042. Fourth place on this list was taken by Monster Hunter Rise and finally followed by Resident Evil Village.
Most Searched Movies, TV Shows & Songs
This year’s list of most searched movies is ranked by Eternal, followed by Black Widow and Dune. Fourth on the list was claimed by Shang-Chi and The Legends of the Ten Rings followed by Red Notice.
The most searched TV shows of the year included two Marvel productions and the list was topped by Squid Games, followed by Bridgerton, WandaVision, Cobra Kai and Loki.
The most searched song of the year is Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo followed by Montero (Call Me By Your Name) by Lil Nas X. Another Lil Nas X song called Industry Baby was claimed on the third song on this list, which also included it. Jack Harlow and then Walker Hayes followed by Fancy Like and together with MAPA by SB19 claimed fifth place
Most Searched Sports Teams
Only football clubs were included in the list of most searched sports teams and Real Madrid was at the top. And then there were Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Fourth place was claimed by FC Barcelona and was followed by Sociedad Esportiva Palmeiras.
