The company is reducing its workforce in various countries.

Media reported on Monday that Google is now laying off employees in China that have hit senior positions and higher-paid employees as part of the global announcement.

The company aims to “reset the salary benchmark and reduce operational costs while improving overall work efficiency”, reports Pandali.

The compensation includes 30,000 yuan ($4,339) in stock and annual leave exemption and cash and medical insurance, and these benefits can only be received by signing an agreement to leave the company before March 10, the report said.

“In addition, Google has provided a three-month buffer period for laid-off employees, during which they cannot work, but will continue to be paid as usual,” it added.

Google’s parent company Alphabet recently laid off 12,000 employees and even 100 robots that cleaned the cafeteria at its headquarters. As part of the global announcement, the company laid off around 400 employees in India.

On January 20, Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed in a letter to employees that around 12,000 people would be laid off globally, which is more than 6 percent of the total workforce.

Many Google employees took to social media, especially LinkedIn, to share their plight.

Denying that the layoffs were done “at random”, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai said he was “deeply sorry” for reducing the workforce.

Pichai said in an email to employees that he “takes full responsibility for the decisions that got us here.”

The layoffs at Google’s parent company were expected amid a deep funding winter affecting companies of all sizes amid fears of a global recession and recession.
