GOOD NEWS! Government’s Gift on Raksha Bandhan: LPG Cylinder Prices Reduced by Rs 200

In a welcome move for consumers, the Union Cabinet has approved a significant decision to lower the prices of domestic LPG cylinders by up to Rs 200. The announcement was made by Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to reduce the price of domestic LPG cylinders by Rs 200 is a special gift to the women of the nation on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Moreover, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has introduced additional benefits for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). These beneficiaries will now receive an extra subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder, making LPG cylinders even more affordable for them.

The cabinet committee’s decision effectively reduces the prices of domestic LPG cylinders by up to Rs 200 per unit. Presently, PMUY beneficiaries are already availing a subsidy of Rs 200. This announcement also includes the provision of free gas connections to 75 lakh women.

With this update, the total amount received by PMUY beneficiaries will now be Rs 400 per cylinder. This move comes at a time when the market price for domestic LPG cylinders is Rs 1,103 per unit. Subsidies are directly credited to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries upon cylinder purchases.

Around one-third of the total LPG consumers in the country will benefit from this subsidy. Notably, in March 2023, the cabinet committee had extended the Rs 200 per LPG cylinder subsidy under PMUY for a duration of one year.

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, initiated in May 2016, aims to provide deposit-free LPG connections to adult women from economically disadvantaged households. Under this government flagship scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive direct subsidy deposits in their bank accounts.
