Good news for Delhiites! Toll tax will be reduced soon and traffic will also be light

New Delhi: Good news for those who come to Delhi again and again by road, not only will there be relief from heavy traffic jams of Delhi, but toll tax will have to be paid! The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has chosen a special method for this.

A new technology Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) database has been linked to FASTag and has made entry of commercial vehicles with RFID tags mandatory at all 124 toll points in Delhi with effect from September 1, 2021.

What is RFID?
South Delhi Municipal Corporation will charge less toll tax from commercial vehicle operators. Commercial vehicles will now have to buy a different kind of chip at the borders of Delhi.

According to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, it will be implemented first at the Badarpur border entry point. At present, there are two toll collection systems just a few meters away. One belongs to the Municipal Corporation and the other belongs to the National Highways Authority of India. There is a demand to link the two together.

RFID system installed at 13 locations

According to the corporation, due to the current system, there is frequent traffic jam here. There are a total of 124 border points in Delhi where these vehicles have to pay toll tax. Of these, RFID systems have now been installed at 13 major locations. This accounts for about 85 percent of commercial vehicular traffic in Delhi. The cost of integration at the boundary point comes to at least Rs 1 to 1.5 crore.

Commercial vehicles mostly enter from Badarpur

Most commercial vehicles enter Delhi through Badarpur and Rajokri boarders. Commercial vehicles coming from Haryana especially from Faridabad will have to pay toll tax twice and hence integration will be done first. After this the integration of Rajokri will take place.

While the project was earlier being carried out under the supervision of Environment Pollution Control Authority, the Air Quality Management Commission is now functioning under NCR.
