The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the pleas for paper ballot voting and affirmed the credibility of EVMs and their integration with VVPATs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling in the EVMs-VVPAT case and said the order is a “tight slap” on those people who continuously tried to “malign EVM”.

“These people continuously tried to malign EVM, but today SC gave them a very tight slap. They will not be able to see anything, today is a good day for democracy,” the prime minister said while addressing a public rally in Bihar’s Araria.

PM Modi further highlighted how every leader of the INDI alliance “committed the sin of creating doubts in the minds of the public regarding EVM” but the Supreme Court’s order “shattered all their dreams” who “intended to loot the ballot boxes”.

“Every leader of the INDI alliance has committed the sin of creating doubts in the minds of the public regarding EVM. But today, look at the power of the country’s democracy and Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s Constitution, today the Supreme Court has given such a severe blow to those who intended to loot the ballot boxes that all their dreams have been shattered.

“Today, when the whole world is praising India’s democracy, India’s election process, and the use of technology in elections, then these people were busy defaming EVM for their personal interests. They have continuously tried to betray democracy,” he added.

Supreme Court Ruling On EVM-VVPAT Case

Earlier today, the Supreme Court dismissed the pleas seeking ballot paper voting and rejected pleas seeking cross-verification of the votes cast in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT).

“We have rejected all of them, after referring to the protocol in place, technical aspects and data which is on record,” Justice Sanjiv Khanna said, according to a Live Law report.
