Gold and silver prices in India saw a sharp fall on Thursday, tracking their international peers. Prices of precious metals remained under pressure throughout the week. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for October closed at Rs 46,918, down 0.26 per cent at 0910 hrs on Thursday. Silver futures were trading at Rs 63,936 on September 9, down 0.38 per cent. Globally, gold prices fell to near two-week lows on Thursday as a firming dollar and higher US Treasury yields boosted bullion on deep concerns about global economic growth. .

Spot gold had settled at $1,789.39 an ounce as of 0054 GMT, after touching its lowest level since August 26 in the previous session. US gold futures ended 0.1% lower at $1,790.80. The dollar rose on cautious risk sentiment. Several policymakers at the Federal Reserve indicated on Wednesday that the US central bank is on track to reduce its heavy asset purchases this year.

“The precious metal not only lost it, but fell below $1790/oz and is worrying for bulls. Treasury yields surge after poor US employment data as markets anticipate the Fed in the near future. May continue to bear rising inflation. Negative job data in US with resurgence of COVID cases will be a short-term downside for gold and hence we advised investors to avoid making long in gold and move to US market at $1840/- oz, while traders can take positive downside. Bottom on major pivot numbers. Key levels for Gold – Rs 46,975, Buy area above – Rs 47,000 with target of Rs 47,150-47,300, Sell area below – 46,804 Rs 46,960 with a target of Rs -46,736,” said Sandeep Matta, Founder, TRADEIT Investment Advisors.
