Panaji: Goa Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kunal on Friday called a meeting of all political parties and informed them that the number of polling stations for the 2022 assembly elections in Goa would be increased in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Avoid overcrowding.

“As per the ECI guidelines and due to COVID, they have decided to limit the number of voters at the polling stations to 1,000, which means new additional polling stations will be created. This is to prevent crowding at polling stations.” GFP Vice President Durgadas Kamat was present in the meeting.
Kunal informed the parties that the pre-poll process has begun, with the revision of the electoral rolls scheduled to begin from November 1. The amendment and voter verification process will continue till November 30.
“Covid patients, who are handicapped and who are above 80 will be able to cast their vote from home. The officials of the Election Commission will go to his house with the ballot paper. The Election Commission has organized a special camp for those who do not have a disability certificate, to help them obtain a disability certificate,” said an official from the CEO’s office.
ECI has also launched an app, Suvidha, for political parties to take necessary permissions during elections.
“An app called Suvidha has been created for all political parties to seek permission through a single platform. All departments like police will be linked to this, this will save their time and ours too. Like last time, we may not have to run around,” Kamat said.
During the meeting the Congress reiterated its objection to the appointment of most of the BLOs in the Mormugao constituency from the same constituency.
State party vice-president Altinho Gomes said, “We have raised concerns about Mormugao, where 16 of the 29 BLOs are from one department, the electricity department, and this has been going on for a long time.”
Kunal has informed the political parties that similar meetings will be held every month to remove any hindrance in the pre-poll process and to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections.
