Goa to HC: Goa University final year exams offline from February 16 | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: The state government has informed the high court of Bombay at Goa that the final year examinations are conducted by Goa University will now be held from February 16 in the offline mode.
The exams were initially scheduled for January 17, but after some students filed a petition in the high court, the university issued a circular postponing the exams to February 7. Now, the university has said that it will abide by the recommendations of the state expert committee and have them from February 16.
The advocate for a group of petitioners, Parag Rao, asked the court if the expert committee could reconvene on February 15 after the assembly elections to assess the situation. tnn
He said the election could be a super spreader with lakhs of people voting.
The high court stated that Goa University would be sensitive to the problem and take cognisance of it, and the division bench comprising justices Mahesh Sonak and RN Laddha advised students to go vote at a time when there is less crowd.
Students had approached the court seeking either the deferment of the exams in the offline mode, or that they be held online.
The students submitted to the high court that if held offline, this could jeaporise the lives of students and the safety of their family members.
The issue pertains to holding of the examination for final year students of all streams. The students approached the court stating that there is an upsurge of Covid-19 cases. Rao had earlier placed on record that there were 3,119 new cases reported on January 12, with several doctors infected.
Another counsel, Amey Kakodkar, also submitted that it would be better to be safe than sorry.
