Goa polls: Congress breaks alliance with TMC rumours, KC Venugopal calls it ‘baseless’

New Delhi: In the electoral state of Goa, the Congress has no intention of forging an alliance with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Senior Rajya Sabha member and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that after meeting Rahul Gandhi, there was no discussion on alliance with TMC.

The Rajya Sabha MP, during his meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Twitter, termed the ongoing rumors about a possible alliance between the Congress and TMC as “completely baseless and untrue”.

“The rumor discussed by Mr. Rahul Gandhi on a possible alliance with TMC in today’s meeting is completely baseless and untrue. I assure you that the Congress party is confident – we will bring Goa back on the path of progress very soon. ” Senior Congress leader wrote.

Party sources had earlier informed on Monday that Rahul Gandhi has returned to India from his personal foreign trip.

Rahul Gandhi had a meeting with General Secretary KC Venugopal and All India Congress Committee senior observer for Goa P Chidambaram through video conferencing.

Gandhi took stock of the election preparations and the Congress’s campaign strategy in the state, where elections are to be held on February 14.

Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had also ruled out any possibility of an alliance with TMC for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.

On Saturday, Chidambaram addressed a press conference, where he said his party would accept the support of any party that has the common task of defeating the BJP. He said he had read the TMC’s statement for the alliance, but added that “let us wait and see.”
