Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that the people of Goa will not tolerate comparison of a human being with the local deity Shantadurga.
Sawant was referring to the comparison of the West Bengal chief minister with Kiran Kandolkar, a local Trinamool Congress leader, and party founder Devi Shantadurga, who is revered as an incarnation of the local goddess Durga.
“Don’t compare anyone with our gods and goddesses. I felt bad when this happened. How can you compare anyone to a goddess? Devi Shantadurga Devi is Shantadurga. No one in Goa accepts such comments (this comparison) Will not. Goans will not tolerate comparing Goddess Shantadurga to any person. It is not possible to tolerate this.”
In October this year, Goa Forward Party working president Kandolkar had said: “Navratri is on, it is eight days. I think we have to bring Durga to Goa. Durga is referred to in Goa. As Shantadurga. I. She is calm. We have to bring the real Durga from Kolkata to Goa to destroy this Bhasmasur-like government.”
Kandolkar had joined the All India Trinamool Congress last month.
Chief Minister Sawant also said that due to comparisons of Banerjee with a goddess, some ‘gods’ had decided to associate themselves with her, with some local politicians joining his party and the West Bengal-based party and Trinamool. In the context of the alliance between Congress.
“Some people may have even thought that she is a real goddess, which is why some deities have decided to stay with her,” Sawant said.
