Mysore: Diwali, the festival of lights, is incomplete without earthen lamps. The shops in the markets are full of them, but not many are aware of how much the artisans struggle to make them and earn some profit.
This year public can bring a change in the lives of hundreds of women, especially women from economically and socially weaker section of the society by buying ‘Deepa’. SanjeevaniDiyas made by women self help groups.
The ‘power star’ of sandalwood, Puneet Rajkumar has now joined hands with these self-help groups by supporting these eco-friendly terracotta diyas.
They are available in all districts and seven locations in Bengaluru city – mainly government office buildings. As part of expanding the market for these locally manufactured products, they are now made available on Amazon.
“The response to Diyas has exceeded our expectation,” explained manjushree no, Mission Director of Sanjivani – Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (KSRLPS).
“To create marketing opportunities, we have started this campaign for Deepa Sanjeevini,” she said.
“National Livelihood Mission Karnataka has both rural and urban SHGs. Creating livelihood for SHG families and lifting them out of poverty is the mission’s mandate. We have future plans to onboard more SHG products on Amazon, Flipkart and other e-commerce platforms,” she explained.
According to officials, around 40 SHGs have opened their stalls across the state, while many SHGs are manufacturing and selling diyas at the local level.
