Gurgaon: With the tenure of the previous members of Resident Advisor Council ,RAC) having expired in December last year, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has now invited applications from amongst residents for enrollment in the body.
Applications are being sought from four categories of residents, including one associated with a non-government organization working desirable in the areas of environmental protection, water conservation, or solid waste management, the other in urban planning as “practical”. “The tenure of the first RAC ended in December last year. At present, we have sought applications from residents of four regions for enrollment in RAC. People can send their candidature by email, post or by hand till January 31,” said a senior GMDA official.
As per Section 11 of the GMDA Act, 2017 the object of the RAC is to “advise the Authority and provide guidance on the exercise of its power and the performance of its functions”.
Apart from officers such as commissioner of Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG), commissioner of police, deputy commissioner and chief administration of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP) – who are all “ex-officio” members – each RAC officials said, have a minimum of 10 more as members. There should be a maximum of 15 residents, with a tenure of two years.
These residents, officials said, are nominated through a draw of lots of residents who fall under various categories, including residents’ welfare associations, civil society, labor and industry.
“We had started the process of formation of new RAC only a few months back. We have written a letter to the industry association seeking recommendations. Similarly, for the labor department, we have written to the deputy labor commissioner to send us a panel from the labor union,” the official said.
Further, the officials said that they had sought applications from the RWA in September itself, out of which 3 members are to be nominated.
During the last meeting of the last RAC, in September, there was a need to include more members in the Council than the matters discussed, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) directed the officers to ensure that the inclusion Take “appropriate steps”. of women in the council. The previous RAC had a total of 14 members, all of whom were men.
“We are hopeful that this time there will be more women who will be part of RAC. However, in the context of actively ensuring this, we can appeal only to those women who are eligible for membership and come forward and apply to be a part of the council, so as to increase the representation of women. It is an open application,” said the official.
