Sheetal Aggarwal, a home baker, and a resident of Sector 50, Gurgaon, who does deliveries across NCR, shares, “We are making a wide variety of items for all types of customers this Christmas. The highlight of this season is the classic plum cake soaked in rum with whiskey, wine and brandy. On the other hand a perfect choice for kids is globe cake.” She adds, “We are also offering Christmas-themed white and dark chocolate bars, cupcakes along with gingerbread and coffee cookies. We also offer Spice Cake, Carrot Cake. We are also trying new recipes like honey and jam cakes and introducing our customers through their weekend menu so that they can try something new every week.

Namita Khanna, a home baker and resident of Sector 81, Gurgaon, says, “For Christmas, we are making customized cookies, breads and muffins. We are also making Rum and Walnut Cakes, and Fresh Orange and Lemon Cakes. Cranberry loaf orders are coming in, focaccia bread, Red Velvet Cake and Herbed Cheese and Garlic Loaf.”

Seema Jain, a resident of Sohna Road, tells us, “Apart from making traditional Christmas plum cakes, I am also making eggless plum cakes and alcohol-free rich fruit cakes. I’m also making gingerbread and chocolate cookies this season.

Home bakers are taking limited orders to focus on quality
Some of them are already booked this season, some are expected to get orders in the week before Christmas. From taking limited orders to focusing on quality and offering gift hampers to their customers, home bakers are doing a lot this season. Shefali Sharma, a resident of Sector 57, Gurgaon, who has been making traditional plum cakes, carrot walnut tea cakes, liner cookies and other cakes says, “I have booked this season. Though we expect to get more orders in the last leg of the season, but before that I am fully booked. Seema Jain says that she is taking only limited orders this season. “I’m only doing over 30 cakes because it’s a limited stock.”

Chhavi Lath, another home baker from Sohna Road, has designed Christmas hampers for children. “Parents can buy a hamper for their children which includes a planter, a packet of seeds, a photo frame, Christmas Tree-shaped focaccia bread, marshmallows, cookies and a peppermint joystick.
