Ghaziabad: A 25 year old Women According to police, he hanged himself after strangling his two children, a five-year-old daughter and a 40-day-old son, in Uttaranchal Colony near the Loni border. Her family members have alleged dishonesty and said that they will file a complaint against her husband.
The woman has been identified as Priya Dahiya. She and her husband Arvind, a property dealer, their daughter Navya And the baby son, whose naming ceremony was to take place in the coming days, had been living in this area for the last eight years.
Loni Circle Officer (CO) Atul Sonkar The incident happened around 5 pm on Sunday when Arvind had gone out to buy milk for the children.
“When he returned after half an hour, he found Priya and Navya hanging. Preliminary investigation revealed that Priya used a rope to strangle her son, who was lying on the bed in the room. He then hung his daughter from the iron railing of the room and then used a dupatta to hang it from the same railing. Arvind took them all GTB hospital in Delhi with the help of neighbors but doctors declared him brought dead,” Sonkar said.
On receiving information around 10 pm, police sent a team to the hospital, but Arvind was nowhere to be found, the CO said, “On Monday morning, police found him lying unconscious near the hospital. He was admitted to GTB Hospital, where he told the police that his wife had committed suicide after killing their two children. After this a team of police reached the family’s house along with the forensic team.
Arvind’s elder brother Amit told the police that once Priya and the children were declared dead, he called her and said that he too would end his life. After this his phone was switched off. Amit, other family members and police searched for Arvind for hours and finally found him outside the mortuary of GTB Hospital around 4 am on Monday.
Sonkar said, “Arvind is not in a position to reveal any more, but the police will interrogate him after the doctor declares him fit.”
Priya was pursuing her BA from a private college in Ghaziabad, her family said, as she dreamed of joining the police force and was preparing for an exam to become a sub-inspector. Some neighbors recalled that in the morning she used to go for running and exercise.
Though the police said that the reason behind the suicide is not yet clear, they suspect that there may be a family dispute. Priya’s family told the police that she had married Arvind in 2014 against the wishes of her parents. Her uncle Praveen Kumar alleged that Arvind was involved in an extramarital affair, which led to tensions and frequent fights in the house. Kumar claimed that on July 8, Priya was discharged from the hospital after giving birth to their son and when she returned home, she asked Arvind to end the relationship, but he refused. He also alleged that Arvind used to beat Priya for dowry and she had left the house for a few days after a similar incident two years back.
SP (Rural) Iraj Raja said that the police have not received any complaint so far. “Arvind’s statement is yet to be recorded and the post-mortem report is awaited,” he said.
