Gazan captured after infiltrating Israel armed with knives

The military said four Palestinians, some armed with knives, were taken into custody by Israeli Defense Force soldiers after infiltrating southern Israel on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, an unarmed Palestinian who had entered Israel from the Gaza Strip through the southern part of the border fence was detained and questioned by IDF troops.

According to the IDF, later on Saturday, three suspects carrying multiple knives were detained by soldiers in the same area after they infiltrated from the coastal enclave.

The army said the suspects were interrogated at the scene, but did not clarify whether they were taken for further questioning or returned to the strip.

While Israel has a high-tech series of fences and walls guarding its border with Gaza, both above and below ground, the steel fence around the strip remains several gaps. In times of low visibility, these gaps have been used by Palestinians to illegally enter Israeli territory in Gaza, often with the hope of fleeing the beleaguered enclave.

In June, a man who crossed the border, armed with an improvised bomb, a grenade and two knives, were apprehended by the soldiers.

While attacks on Israeli civilians by infiltrators from Gaza are rare, in May, a Palestinian man armed with multiple knives entered Israel. attacked and lightly injured a security guard About five kilometers from the border fence.

Although Palestinians regularly attempt to enter Israel from Gaza, it is highly unusual for them to make it this far into Israeli territory without being observed and detained by Israeli soldiers.

The attack in May comes days after an 11-day conflict between Israel and Gaza militant groups ended.
