GATE 2022 AIR in Electrical 1: Bihar’s pride in third attempt Crack exam is key to self-improvement

Bihar native Gaurav Kumar cracked Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 in his third attempt. He scored a complete 1000 GATE score and 92.67 marks in the Electrical Engineering paper of GATE 2022.

In his first attempt in GATE 2020, Kumar had secured rank 988, then in 2021 re-attempted GATE and secured rank 300. He had steadily improved his score only by bettering himself. He didn’t keep track of his feats, but rather his errors, which he claims helped him.

After two failed attempts, it was easy to get frustrated, Kumar took it in his stride and claimed that it was his experience from the last two attempts that gave him an edge over the others. Apart from regular revision work and attempting mock series, Gaurav says he used to make a list of “silly mistakes” made in the last two attempts and correct them for GATE 2022.

After completing his Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electrical and Electronics from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Patna in 2020, Kumar devoted his time to GATE preparation.

“I mainly focused on the Test series part. My mode of preparation is question-solving. I attempted a lot of mock tests. Also, the study of the last two years helped me a lot. I used to make a lot of silly mistakes in my last attempts from which I learned a lot. I used to write down all my mistakes in one copy and start working on them,” Gaurav told News18.com.

Apart from mock tests, he also started taking lessons from Unacademy in the last two months before the exam. “He also mentioned several other coaching classes in the last two years.

While his father has passed away, his mother is a homemaker. He now wants to join a public service undertaking because of his family’s financial condition. “My family situation doesn’t really encourage me to do my Masters,” says Gaurav.

The GATE 2022 topper completed her class 10th from St Joseph’s Academy, Biharsharif and 12th from CBSE affiliated RPS school, where she secured 92.4 percentile in her board exams. Talking about his GATE score, he smiles and says, “At the moment, I am not feeling much. Firstly, it will take me two to three days to understand the fact that I have secured rank 1.
