Gardener’s Son from Kashmir Secures AIR 7 in UPSC CSE 2022, Says ‘There Was Mental Pressure, Lack of Guidance’

UPSC CSE Rank 7 Waseem Ahmad Bhat studied in a local school in Dooru area before studying at NIT, Srinagar. Though he had qualified for UPSC in 2020 and secured 225th rank, he decided to appear for the exam again.

The results of the Civil Services Examination 2022 of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) were announced on Tuesday, in which 16 have qualified and once again the youth of Jammu and Kashmir have shone brightly. They are proving their metal despite the difficulties. Among those who have qualified is Waseem Ahmad Bhat, a gardener’s son from Dooru Shahabad village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, who has secured all India rank 7th in CSE.

Wasim studied at a local school in the remote area before studying at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar. Though he had qualified for UPSC in 2020 and secured 225th rank, he decided to appear for the exam again. He was taking training in Nagpur when the news came. “Surprisingly, my name was on the front page. I thought I would make it to 70, but the 7th rank brought happiness to me and my family.”

He said there was a lack of guidance as none of his close relatives had taken the civil services exam before. “Even if you have guidance, you need resources, be it financial or studies. There is always a mental pressure and it is important to face it and family and friends help in reducing that pressure,” Waseem Said, he always wanted to be an IAS. To qualify for UPSC Civil Services Exam.

Similarly, Parsanjit Kaur of Poonch district of Jammu region has secured 11th rank in UPSC CSE 2022. The district is close to the Line of Control and has its own challenges. Kaur studied chemistry in Jammu and always wanted to qualify for the civil services. “I did my graduation from Poonch itself and then went to Jammu. The exam is long and complex. There are difficulties but my parents, teachers and hand work kept me going,” she said, adding that she wants to serve in Jammu and Kashmir.

Nitin Singh, Rank 32, has been preparing for the last 3 years and finally the hard work has paid off. Singh had passed the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Examination and was undergoing training in Srinagar.

“After college, I started preparing. I took coaching from Delhi, studied basic books and gave mock tests. There is uncertainty and this was my third attempt. I did not expect 32 rank.
