Ganja Consumption, Peddling: Doctors, Medical Students Among 10 Arrested

The accused were produced in the jurisdictional court today and taken on police remand for two days.

Police said on Wednesday that they have arrested 10 people, including an Indian-origin foreign national, medical doctors, MBBS and dental students, in connection with the alleged consumption and smuggling of ganja.

Two of them are doctors, seven are medical/dental students from three professional colleges in the city, from different states, and four of them are women.

According to police, they arrested Indian-origin foreign national Neel Kishorilal Ramji Shaw (38) last week for allegedly selling ganja at his flat.

The man is said to have been living in Mangaluru for the past 15 years and was a fourth-year student at a dental college in the city, he said, adding that during interrogation, Sha revealed information about other medical, dental college students and doctors, who were involved in the peddling and consumption of ganja, which led to his arrest.

Police said they seized two kg of ganja worth Rs 50,000, two mobile phones, a toy pistol, a dagger, Rs 7,000 in cash, a digital weighing scale and other electronic gadgets from Sha.

Others were picked up from hostels, PGs and private residences. Ganja and 9 mobile phones have been recovered from them.

Police said further investigation is on to ascertain whether they were consuming and smuggling synthetic drugs among others and to get other details.

The accused were produced in the jurisdictional court today and taken on police remand for two days.
