BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had tested positive for the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 but was discharged after four days of hospitalization as the infection was severe, a hospital official said on Saturday. was not and could be managed in home isolation.

Though the former India captain has not been infected with the Omicron variant, his samples taken two days ago came back positive for the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19.

“Ganguly’s samples have tested positive for the Delta Plus variant. We are treating him,” the official said.

He said Ganguly, who was discharged on Friday after testing negative for the Omicron variant, would be in home isolation under the supervision of doctors for the next fortnight.

The 49-year-old was taken to Woodlands Multispecialty Hospital on Monday night as a precautionary measure after an RT-PCR test came back positive for COVID-19.

After admission, Ganguly received “monoclonal antibody cocktail therapy”. He was hospitalized twice earlier this year and underwent emergency angioplasty after he complained of cardiac issues. His elder brother Snehasish Ganguly also tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year.
