Ganga water supply to Greater Noida after three months | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: The Greater Noida Authority plans to start supplying Ganga water to residents of Greater Noida after three months. The project went a step further on Friday, with Ganga water reaching the master reservoir in Jaitpur for the first time. Now, officials will check the pipelines across the city to see if any repairs are required before releasing Ganga water into them.
According to officials, there was no leakage problem while transporting Ganga water to the Jaitpur master reservoir. Senior manager Kapil Singh said, “Ganga water reached the reservoir on Friday. We hope to start the supply of Ganga water in the next three months. It is an achievement that there was no pipe leakage while transporting the water to the Jaitpur reservoir.”
On Friday, railway officials also inspected the Ganga water lines passing near the railway lines. CEO Surendra Singh said, “The authority has been continuously taking stock of the project’s progress since the strike by farmers over land compensation-related demands near the water treatment plant in Palla ended on July 1. The work on the project has been going at a fast pace since then.”
The proposal to bring 85 cusecs of Ganga water from the Upper Ganga Canal (Hapur) to Greater Noida came up in 2005. The water supply network got constructed between 2012 and 2014. In 2017, the work on a 23 km pipeline from Dehra to Jaitpur, the water treatment plant and the intake (initial) treatment plant at Dehra began. The 7.4 km-long line from Dehra on land belonging to the irrigation department got built by 2018. Subsequently, the work of laying the pipeline under the Delhi-Howrah railway line near Palla took place.
Ganga water reached the WTP in Palla in December 2021 through the pipeline under the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. However, farmers sat on an indefinite strike at the Palla WTP over land compensation, stopping the work for the next six months. Now, the project is back on track and nearly complete.
