Varanasi: TMC leader and Chief Minister of West Bengal love of a mother Banerjee was allegedly shown black flags by activists of Hindu Yuva Vahini Amidst the slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Modi-Modi” when she was going to participate Ganga Aarti At Dashashwamedh Ghat here on Wednesday evening.

After landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, she went straight to the ghat to see the Ganga Aarti. As his vehicle was passing through the Chetganj area, a group of Hindu Yuva Vahini activists started raising slogans of ‘Back Jaao’ (go back) and showing black flags. The police present on the spot stopped them.

According to a leader of Samajwadi Party (SP) Manoj Rai Dhoopchandi, who was with Mamta at the time, said that “fear of defeat forced her to act this way”. They also raised slogans of ‘Jai UP, Jai Hind’ and “Har-Har Mahadev”, he told TOI, adding that some BJP workers had also reached the ghat.
Till the filing of this report, the police did not take any action against anyone. Chetganj police said that action will be taken after the identification of the people involved in the incident.
Mamta was in Varanasi to participate in the election rally of SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday.
