Gajanan

The elephant-headed deity is known by this name because he is the one with the elephant (gaja) face (anan); As the name suggests. According to the Mudgala Purana, Gajanan is the eighth incarnation of Ganesha, to whom Lobhasura surrendered.

Vighnaharta

‘Vighna’ means trouble while ‘harta’ means one who removes. Ganesha is often addressed by this name which suggests the divine power of Ganesha, which is the ability to remove problems and sufferings from the lives of the devotees.

Vinayak

It is another name for ‘Gaurisuta’ (son of Gauri) which is similar to Vighnaharta. It means one who is adept at removing all obstacles.

bhalchandra

The significance of the name derives from the incarnation of Ganesha (Bala/child), who carries Chandra (moon) on his forehead. The Brahmanda Purana states that Ganesha saved Chandra from the curse of the Darbhi saint when he took pity as a boy and wore the moon as a tilak on his forehead.
