Ranchi: Members of the ruling coalition are divided over having a designated room for offering prayers in the assembly premises.

However, the protests were successful in dividing the members of the ruling coalition. While some of them tried to defend the decision, some suggested to amend the notification and include a word “prayer hall” along with “offering of prayers” in the said notification.
Mithilesh Thakur, a minister in the Hemant Soren cabinet, criticized BJP members for not only stalling proceedings but also for creating an ugly scene by pushing journalists of the Assembly from their chairs and sitting at their tables. But in the same breath he said that the word “room for prayer” should be read as “room for prayer”.
JVM-P MLAs, who have moved to Congress, Bandhu Tirkey and Irfan Ansari of Congress also suggested amendment in the notification so that the designated room for offering prayers can be used by people of all religions for offering prayers.
The sloganeering was led on the floor of the House by Bhanu Pratap Shahi and Randhir Singh, who not only chanted Jai Shri Ram and Har Har Mahadev, but also disrupted the entire opposition camp at the reporter table.
Former CM Babulal Marandi said that the assembly and parliament are considered as temples of democracy. “We cannot allow other temples inside the temple of democracy, so the assembly secretariat should withdraw the notification,” he said. ”
Reacting to the day-long uproar in the House, Chief Minister Hemant Soren accused the BJP of raising non-issues. “Since he has nothing to discuss and debate, he ruined the Chief Minister’s Question Hour when I was eager to answer members on policy matters,” he said. Asked whether he was ready to accept suggestions from members of his own coalition to amend the notification, Soren said there was nothing to pacify the BJP legislators.
