BJP state secretary Priyanka Tibrewal also slammed the TMC’s candidates’ picks and drew a comparison between what she said were the “real and reel-life heroes” of the party

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday launched a sharp attack at the Trinamool Congress for fielding veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha as its candidate from Asansol for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The saffron camp’s IT cell head Amit Malviya, in a post on microblogging site X, shared a video clip from one Sinha’s older movies, saying that, “Meet @ShatruganSinha, TMC’s candidate from Asansol. TMC rank is full of rapists, both in real (likes of Shahjahan Sheikh) and reel life.”

“Suprised Mamata Banerjee didn’t ask Shatrughan Sinha to join her on the eve of International Women’s Day for the sham women empowerment march,” Malviya added.

Similarly, BJP state secretary Priyanka Tibrewal also slammed the TMC’s candidates’ picks and drew a comparison between what she said were the “real and reel-life heroes” of the party, Hindustan Times reported.

“Look at the similarity between the real and reel life heroes of Trinamool. According to Trinamool, real-life heroes are people like Shahjahan, who raped women in Sandeshkhali and no wonder their reel-life heroes are people like Shatrughan Sinha who rapes women in the movies,’ Tibrewal said.

She also questioned the reputation of the candidates who have been named in the TMC’s list. She said, “TMC’s list when it has come out most of them are tainted. And I say so. Why? Because cases are pending against them. They have given tickets to somebody like Mahua Moitra who was expelled from the parliament. No wonder we’ll see similar results in the upcoming years,” Tibrewal was quoted as saying.

Earlier, BJP’s candidate for the general elections from Asansol, Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh, withdrew his name from the candidature.

Taking to X, Singh expressed his gratitude towards the BJP leadership for choosing him but added that he will not contest from Asansol due to “some reason”.

Though unclear as to why he withdrew his name, Singh had received criticism for his nomination from the TMC, which alleged that many of his songs were lewd and portrayed women in a vulgar light.

At the time, Shatrughan Sinha had termed this to be an internal affair of the saffron camp. “I don’t know him (Pawan Singh) personally very well. But heard he is a singer, an artist and some of my acquaintances know him,” he had said.

Aside from raising a flag on Sinha’s candidature, Malviya also took a swipe at the entire candidates’ list of the TMC and said that it is “full” of what Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee calls “outsiders”.

“Yusuf Pathan, the TMC’s Baharampur candidate, is from Baroda in Gujarat or West Bengal? The TMC list is full of what Mamata Banerjee calls ‘bohiragotos (outsiders)’,” the BJP’s West Bengal co-incharge said in another X post.

Slamming Mamata Banerjee, Malviya further said, “Shame on her divisive politics, which is holding back West Bengal.”
