Fuel Rate Today: Diesel price cut by 20 paise, no change in petrol price

Diesel prices were reduced for the third day in a row, while there was no change in petrol prices. Diesel in the national capital was sold at Rs 89.27 per liter, which is 20 paise less than the previous level. The price of petrol was Rs 101.84 per litre.

Similarly, in Mumbai, diesel price also fell by 20 paise to Rs 96.84 per liter, while petrol remained unchanged at Rs 107.83 per litre.

Global crude oil prices continue to fall. The October contract for Brent crude oil was trading at $66.72 a barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).

The fall in global oil prices should have resulted in a reduction in retail rates of the fuel by around Rs 2 per litre. However, OMCs still want to see volatility in the market before making further cuts.

Auto fuel pump prices have been stable since July 18.

The prolonged price stagnation for auto fuels came after a 41-day hike in fuel prices in the current fiscal. The hike of 41 has raised petrol prices in Delhi by Rs 11.44 per litre. Similarly, diesel rates have increased by Rs 8.74 per liter in the national capital.

The prices of both the auto fuels have come down only once in April by 16 and 14 paise per liter respectively. Diesel prices were reduced by 16 paise per liter in Delhi on 12 July and then on 18, 19 and 20 August.
