Its tumultuous history actually began largely unintentionally. Professor Samit Ray studied computers after earning an Honors degree in Physics. He was working in an important position in a reputed IT company when some recent graduates in his neighborhood asked him to tutor them in maths for banking exams. He consented, and he began instructing them in his study room during the weekends. Coaching started with a single classroom and a group of 40 students in the northern suburbs of Kolkata; Under his tutelage, 36 students out of them got selected in various competitive exams. Birth of Rice Education
Professor Ray made this discovery as a result of his research on how to help young Bengalis succeed in competitive examinations. He learned that the key to success is systematic, well-planned teaching in all subjects. Thus, RICE Education was established on 1st July 1985 at Belgharia, on the outskirts of North Kolkata. His father, Shri Satchis Kiran Ray, a teacher, taught Prof. served as an inspiration for Ray.
