Fourth Covid wave: Center asks states, UTs to focus on five-fold strategy to contain growth

new Delhi: The Central Government has advised the States and Union Territories to continue to focus on a five-fold strategy to contain the growth of COVID-19 in the country.

The Centre’s advisory comes amid concerns about a possible fourth Covid wave in India in the coming days.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan stressed that the five-fold strategy, i.e. Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour, should be the constant focus, reported ANI.

“States should also ensure that sufficient number of samples are submitted to the INSACOG network through sentinel sites as per the protocols issued by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), which is the nodal agency for INSCOG, so that the new variants To ensure timely detection. Maintaining adequate testing as per protocol prescribed by ICMR,” Bhushan said in his letter to additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and secretaries (health) of all states and UTs.

“Effective surveillance, if any, of emerging clusters of new cases, testing as per norms and ILI and SARI cases will be monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure that no early warning signs are missed. and control the spread of infection. ,” she added.

The Union Health Secretary said it is also important that states ensure that all eligible persons are motivated to complete the dosage for all adults in addition to the recent expansion of the vaccination campaign for young adults and the precautionary dose for adults. ,

“The state machinery should create necessary awareness and ensure to follow COVID appropriate behaviour, i.e. wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing in all public areas/gatherings and practicing effective hand and respiratory hygiene,” he said.

The Centre’s advisory comes in the wake of the World Health Organization (WHO) warning all countries to be vigilant against the virus.
