Shopian: Four terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in South Kashmir on Saturday.
In the first encounter in Shopian’s Chaugam village, the government forces killed two local militants in a 12-hour-long encounter. A residential house was also damaged in the encounter.
According to police sources, a joint team of Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles, 14th Battalion of CRPF and government forces including police launched a cordon and search operation at around 11 pm on Friday at Chaugam village on the outskirts of Shopian city.
He said that when searches were being conducted at residential houses around 2.30 am, the hiding terrorists fired upon a joint team of security forces resulting in an encounter.
According to a police spokesman, two local militants were killed in the overnight military operation. The house where the two terrorists were trapped was isolated from the main village and surrounded by apple orchards.
Both the slain terrorists have been identified as Sajjad Ahmed Chek of Barari village in Shopian and Raja Basit Nazir, a resident of Achan village in Shopian.
The encounter took place one kilometer from the Chowgam military camp, located about 500 meters from Shopian town.
Mobile internet services have been suspended in the district following the news of the encounter.
There was a complete shutdown in Shopian in view of the encounter.
In another encounter, two terrorists belonging to Ansar Gajwatul Hind were killed in Tral area of Pulwama district. According to the police, government forces launched a cordon and search operation in the afternoon after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in Hardumir village of Tral.
Police said that during the search, the trapped terrorists opened fire on the forces involved in the encounter.
According to the police, the terrorists were given ample opportunities to surrender before the encounter. However, they denied surrender opportunities and instead fired indiscriminately at the joint search party, which in retaliation led to an encounter.
Two terrorists were killed and their bodies were recovered from the encounter site. They have been identified as Nadeem Nazir Bhat son Nazir Ahmed Bhat resident of Koil Shikargah Tral and Rahi Rasool Bhat alias Adil son Ghulam Rasool resident of Kanipora Dadsara.
