Prayagraj: At least four people including three members of a family from Kaushambi and a 40-year-old man from Holagarh Prayagraj districtTwo separate cases of suspected food poisoning died in the last 24 hours in Kaushambi and Prayagraj districts.
The police have collected food samples in both the cases and sent them for forensic laboratory testing.
In the first incident, three members of the same family, Shivkali alias Pataraki (65), his daughter-in-law Seema Devi In Chak Pinha village of Sarai Akil police station area of Kaushambi district, late on Tuesday night, in a suspected case of consuming poison, (25) and grandson Anurag (5) died.
Police said that two other family members – Kanhaiya alias kandhai (30) and Sarita alias Sangeeta (30) – were undergoing treatment at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj and their condition is stated to be stable.
Additional SP (Kaushambi) Samar Bahadur Told TOI, “In the preliminary police investigation, food poisoning has been cited as the reason behind the deaths of three people. Samples of ‘atta’ (flour) and vegetables have been collected from the spot and sent for laboratory testing.”
“The sample of ‘atta’ was smelling bad.
Police said the family had seven members, including four adults and three minors.
Five of them ate late Tuesday evening, while two minors did not eat as they slept early.
After eating the food, the condition of five family members started deteriorating one by one and on Tuesday midnight, the elderly woman was the first to die in the house.
Family members contacted neighbors and others who took four seriously ill patients to the hospital, but two of them died during treatment. The other two were undergoing treatment at SRN Hospital.
On receiving information, a team of senior police officers and forensic experts reached the spot and took samples for examination. Police said a detailed investigation is underway and they are waiting for the post-mortem report.
