Four Arrested for Attacking SFI Leader, Police Officer at Govt Polytechnic College in Kerala

Wayanad District Students Union India (SFI) Joint Secretary Aparna Gauri was attacked by a group of students at Government Polytechnic College, Meppadi on Friday. Aparna was admitted to a private medical college in Wayanad. A police officer was also injured in the attack and five students were arrested and remanded in two cases.

Four people, including Kiran Raj, Atul, Shibili and Abin, were arrested on Saturday for assaulting and grievously injuring SFI district joint secretary Aparna Gauri in Wayanad. According to the Meppadi police, it was a clash between college students in connection with the elections. Aparna is injured in the attack and Police Inspector Vipin KB is also injured.

Police registered a case under sections 143, 147,294(B), 354, 506,323 and 308 of IPC for assaulting Aparna and arrested four students and taken them on remand. Another student Alan Antony was booked under sections 323, 333, 341, 353, 506 of the IPC for assault on a police officer. He was arrested and taken on remand.

The assailants were suspected to be part of other political parties operating at the Government Polytechnic. He also allegedly assaulted Meppadi police station SHO Vibin AB during the violence on December 2.

Meppadi police said, “After the elections at the Government Polytechnic College here, miscreants indulged in violence in which several students and police officials, including the Meppadi Station CI, were seriously injured.”

Meanwhile, the Left parties and the SFI alleged that the attack was carried out by a drug mafia operating near the college.

“Comrade Aparna, District Joint Secretary of SFI in Wayanad, Kerala, was brutally attacked by drug mafia in her college (Government Polytechnic College, Meppadi)… We will defeat the shroud of drug mafia in the campus, which often masquerades as apolitical gangs. I work in, organizing student and promoting drug awareness,” SFI All India President VP Sanu said in a tweet.
