With only a few days left for the formation of the new government in Uttar Pradesh, Swati Singh, wife of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and MLA from Ballia Sadar Dayashankar Singh and former minister in the UP government, has filed her petition for divorce in the family court. Swati Singh has filed for reopening of the divorce case with Dayashankar Singh. The case was closed in 2018 when both the parties did not appear in court.

Now with a few days left for the swearing-in of the new government in the state, Swati Singh has applied to start the case once again in the court of the Additional Chief Justice of the Family Court. The order has been reserved by Additional Chief Justice Family Court Shruti Srivastava on the application of Swati Singh.

Swati Singh’s husband Dayashankar Singh has recently won the assembly election from Ballia on a BJP ticket. There were speculations that Dayashankar Singh might get an important post as he played an important role in bringing some big leaders of other parties to the BJP. However, now with the timing of divorce applications against him, his political prospects may be hampered.

Swati Singh’s entry in politics is interesting. Swati’s husband Dayashankar Singh had used derogatory language against BSP supremo Mayawati, after which BJP had to come on the back foot and suspend Dayashankar. After this, BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui used derogatory language against Swati Singh and her daughter. Swati then opened a front against Siddiqui and lodged a complaint with the police. Then she was made the chief of the UP BJP Mahila Morcha.

Swati Singh was given ticket by the BJP from Sarojini Nagar in 2017, after which she won and became a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government. This time however, he was denied a ticket and the BJP had fielded former bureaucrat Rajeshwar Singh from the Sarojini Nagar seat. There were also rumors about how both Swati Singh and Dayashankar were lobbying for the Sarojini Nagar seat this time, but the party had fielded Rajeshwar Singh instead.
