Various organizations to gather at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on March 4 to protest against the action against those involved in the student’s death, in support of the SIT
Dr. Bhalchandra Mungekar, former member of Rajya Sabha and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai, on Wednesday demanded that a Special Investigation Team be set up to probe the alleged suicide of a Dalit student of IIT-Bombay.
He was talking to reporters here.
Darshan Solanki’s family members have already alleged that he faced caste discrimination during his first semester. It should be thoroughly investigated,” Mungekar said.

“Various like-minded organizations will gather here at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on March 4 to protest in support of the SIT and action against those involved in his death,” he said.
Mungekar said that Darshan’s father is also going to participate in the March 4 protest.
“The police conducted the post-mortem without the permission of her parents and even before reaching Mumbai. The whole issue is being hush-hush when there is ample evidence that Darshan faced caste-based discrimination.
“It is not an accidental case, but institutional murder. An FIR should be registered with sections of the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,” the former RS member demanded.
