Former PM Manmohan Singh discharged from Delhi AIIMS after treatment

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital earlier this month after complaining of fever and weakness, has been discharged after treatment.

ANI reported that Dr Singh, who was earlier under the supervision of doctors after being admitted to AIIMS on October 13, was discharged at 5:20 pm.

Singh was undergoing treatment in a private ward of the Cardio-Neuro Tower in the hospital.

He was under the supervision of a team of cardiologists led by Dr. Nitish Naik.

Several prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier wished Dr Singh a speedy recovery.

Several politicians, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, had met 89-year-old Dr Singh at AIIMS during treatment.

However, the health minister’s visit sparked controversy as he was accused of taking a photographer with Dr Singh without the permission of the family.

Earlier this year, the Congress veteran and Rajya Sabha member was hospitalized after testing positive for Covid-19 during the second wave of infections.

In 2009, Manmohan Singh underwent coronary bypass surgery at AIIMS, Delhi, after which he goes to the hospital for a general check-up as per the doctor’s advice.

Dr Manmohan Singh has served as the Prime Minister for two consecutive terms during the rule of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Center from 2004 to 2014.
