Former Miss Kerala Car Accident Death: Crime Branch Handles Case After Hotel Owner’s Arrest

Chennai: A special team of Crime Branch led by SP Busy George will now investigate the car accident in which two models were killed on November 1.

The developments came to light after the police team on Wednesday night arrested Roy J Violatin, the owner of the hotel and five of his staff members, where the DJ party had taken place before the accident.

Violatin was arrested after he told the police that the CCTV hard disk containing the party scenes had been destroyed. While 25-year-old Ansi Kabir and 24-year-old Anjana Shajan died instantly in the accident, a third person – Aashiq – succumbed a few days later, leaving Abdul Rehman, who was driving the car, as the only witness.

Rahman has been discharged from the hospital for the time being but the police have arrested him on charges of ‘involuntary murder’.

Though the police team recovered the hard disk of the CCTV footage at the hotel, it failed to obtain any footage of the party, raising suspicions of dishonesty. After several days of investigation, the police team came to know that there was an altercation during the party. Before the matter got worse, the youths had left the hotel.

According to sources, Rahman was driving under the influence of alcohol. On its way back, the car lost control after hitting a two-wheeler and overturned.

However, the police found that a vehicle was coming behind the car carrying the two women. During interrogation, the driver told that the victim’s car was being driven at a very high speed. According to reports, the driver of the car following the other car called and informed the hotel owner about the accident.

Meanwhile, the police team had asked everyone present in the party to come forward to record their statements, which did not help as many participants were unregistered. Those who had registered are now being summoned.

In another related development, the man who was chasing the unlucky car approached the court for anticipatory bail on Thursday fearing to be arrested.
