Former Chelsea star Michael Ballack’s 18-year-old son dies in freak accident

Emilio Ballack, son of former Chelsea and Germany midfielder Michael Ballack, has died in a quad bike accident in Portugal. According to Portuguese media reports, the 18-year-old passed away when he was riding a bike on or near land owned by his father in Portugal’s Troia peninsula, rolled over and fell on him. Firefighters tried to save his life but he was declared brought dead on the spot.

The news was officially confirmed after Chelsea offered condolences to their former player.

The Blues tweeted: “Everyone associated with Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Emilio Ballack at the very young age of 18. All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time Huh.”

Emilio was the second of three children between Michael Ballack and his ex-wife Simone Lambe. The other two children were born on either side of Emilio.

During his stay with Chelsea, 44-year-old Michael Ballack was a fan-favorite and was dubbed as one of the most talented football players of his generation. Ballack spent four seasons with the Blues and in 2021, rejoined Bayer Leverkusen before announcing his retirement in 2012.

Rudy Woller, current managing director of sport at Leverkusen, said: “The news shocked me and I am deeply affected. We mourn the boy and feel for Michael and Simone. We all at Bayer wish the entire Ballack family Wishing you an incredible strength. ”
