Former BJP minister attacks UP government after stopping installation of Phoolan Devi statue in Varanasi

Former minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Monday once again attacked the state government over the seizure of Phoolan Devi’s statue in Varanasi.

The SBSP has asked why the government, which installed the statues of Lord Ram, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, is not allowing the installation of the statue of Phoolan Devi.

In a series of tweets, SBSP chief Om Prakash Rajbhar said, “If the BJP government can honor Lord Shri Ram, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Sardar Patel by installing statues of them, then why did the BJP government in UP stop Establishment of a statue of former MP Phoolan Devi ji, a symbol of women’s self-respect? SBSP condemns this.

In another tweet, he said, ‘The BJP government neither wants to give reservation to the backwards nor does it want to give its share. If the government of Partnership Sankalp Morcha is formed, then the idol of Phoolan Devi ji will be installed wherever the people of Nishad, Kashyap, Mallah, Bind, Manjhi, Majhwada community including Lucknow want. Right to respect and equality will be given to all sections of the society.

Sunday was the death anniversary of late Phoolan Devi, a dacoit-turned-politician. On the occasion of Jayanti, a program was organized to establish his idol in Shujabad area on the banks of Ganga located in Ramnagar police station area of ​​Varanasi. A 15 feet high statue of Phoolan Devi also reached the venue for the event, but some villagers protested, after which the police also reached the spot.

ACP Kotwali Praveen Singh said that no permission was taken from the administration to install the statue and Section-144 was applicable in Varanasi as well.

The statue installation program was called by members of the Vikas Sheel Insaan Party (VIP), which is active in the neighboring state of Bihar. According to the information, Bihar minister Mukesh Sahni, who arrived at the Varanasi airport for the program, was also not allowed out of the airport by the district administration and he was sent back to Bihar from the airport.
