Former Akali Dal leaders including Bibi Amanjot Kaur join BJP

New Delhi: Several Shiromani Akali Dal leaders, including former Union minister Balwant Singh Ramuwalia’s daughter Amanjot Kaur Ramuwalia, joined the BJP here on Monday.

Besides Amanjot Kaur Ramuwalia, Gurpreet Singh Shahpur, former National Organization Secretary of Akali Dal, Chand Singh Chatha, former Vice President of Akali Dal, Chetan Mohan Joshi, one of the founding members of Aam Aadmi Party and Baljinder Singh Dhakoha, former District President of Akali Dal K joined BJP from Gurdaspur.

Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, BJP general secretary and Punjab in-charge Dushyant Gautam and national general secretary Tarun Chugh were present at the party headquarters in the capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Shekhawat said that the joining of leaders to the BJP is a sign of the selection of the people in Punjab. He said, ‘We all together will try to get results in favor of BJP in Punjab elections. He alleged that some political parties want to come to power in Punjab with guns on their shoulders in the name of farmers.

Welcoming all the leaders to join the BJP, Gautam said that the way some political parties are trying to misuse the Constitution under the guise of farmers’ agitation, the people of Punjab are deeply saddened by it. That’s why the people of Punjab look up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for peace in the state.
