The record number of devotees visiting Tirumala in May has been attributed to the effects of the pandemic for two years, where they were unable to visit the temple except during the summer holidays.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has created an all-time record in hundi collection with over Rs 130.29 crore as donations from Sri Venkateswara Swamy devotees in the month of May. TTD executive officer AV Dharma Reddy disclosed this to the media.
According to the executive officer, in the month of May, the temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala was visited by 22,62,000 devotees. 1.86 lakh laddus were sold, 47 lakh devotees took ‘annaprasadam’ at Matrisree Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasad Bhavan and 10,72,000 devotees got their heads shaved as part of hair donation to the presiding deity in the same month.

The executive officer has said that there may be unexpected congestion in Tirumala on the coming Saturday and Sunday. Devotees have to wait for two days to have darshan of Lord Venkateswara on weekends. He urged the devotees to wait patiently for the darshan of Srivaru due to the huge crowd.
Meanwhile, devotees from Tamil Nadu have given Rs 10 crore as donation to various trusts under TTD. TTD officials said Saroja Surya Narayanan, another devotee from Chennai, donated a golden sacred thread studded with diamonds and a gold necklace weighing 4.150 kg worth Rs 2.45 crore.
