Following DGCA’s warning, Air India issues ‘citizen’s charter’ denying boarding, cancellation and all travel aspects – Times of India

New Delhi: Air India Friday came out with a “citizen charter” — a traveler’s reference guide to everything like reservations, lounge facilities, passenger services, feedback mechanisms for in-flight services, and provisions for declined boarding and flight delays.
The move comes days after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation this Tuesday (June 14) imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on AI for violating rules for refusing to board and calling it “immediately to address the issue”. Was ordered to install the system, failing which further action will be taken.
On boarding refusal, AI Charter states: “When the number of passengers, who have been given a confirmed booking for travel on the flight and who have reported well for the flight within time, exceeds the number of seats available , an airline may first ask volunteers to give up their seat in exchange for benefits/amenities… provided the airports concerned have dedicated check-in facilities/gate areas that make it practical for the airline to do so.
A passenger, who has a confirmed ticket and has reached the airport on time, has been refused boarding, paying compensation if the alternate flight exceeds one hour of the flight originally booked Will happen.
With flight cancellations notified to passengers up to 24 hours after departure, AI says it will arrange an alternate flight/refund acceptable to the passenger.
Passengers who do not report the cancellation of the flight will be compensated anywhere between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.
However, “no financial compensation will be payable to passengers who have not provided sufficient contact information (email ID or a phone number) at the time of booking,” Charter said.
Similarly, it lays down rules for compensation to passengers in case of flight delays and loss of baggage.
