Bad news for foldable smartphones! A new report by DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) shows a decline in sales during the fourth quarter of 2022. According to the report, the shipments of foldable smartphones fell by 48 percent compared to the previous quarter and 26 percent compared to the same period. In 2021, a total of 3.1 million units were shipped from October to December 2022.

The DSCC report states that although the fourth quarter of 2022 saw a decline in shipments, overall 2022 foldable phone shipments grew by an impressive 62 percent, reaching 12.9 million units. Samsung, as always, continues to dominate the foldable phone market in 2022 with 83 percent market share. The numbers are down compared to Q3’s 86 percent and Q4 2021’s 96 percent, Aas per Sammobile.

The report also mentions that Apple’s recently released iPhone 14 series will overtake Samsung’s foldable phone in the fourth quarter of 2022. Huawei and Oppo followed Samsung in the global foldable phone market, while the Galaxy Z Flip was the best-selling foldable phone worldwide. 47% market share.

Samsung Display remains the dominant display supplier in the foldable phone market, accounting for 81 percent of foldable displays used in the fourth quarter of 2022, followed by Chinese supplier BOE at 17 percent. GizmoChina reported that despite this, the DSCC predicts that Samsung will maintain or increase its share of foldable display shipments in 2023, rising to more than 20 million units in the coming year.
