Focus on hosting IPL in India, but BCCI exploring overseas options too: Sources

A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official said on Sunday that the board is giving priority to organizing the tournament in India, but the decision will depend on what the state governments decide.

After the sudden increase in the cases of Kovid-19 again in India, there are many reports that the Indian Premier League 2022 to be held in April may once again be out of the country.

Meanwhile, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official said on Sunday that the board is giving priority to holding the tournament in India, but the decision will depend on what the state governments decide.

As reported by Sports Tak, the board is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and no decision has been taken yet regarding the venues of the tournament.

“BCCI is exploring all options including overseas IPL. But the focus is definitely on hosting the IPL in India. At present, auction is a priority and the board will take a decision soon.”

The 2020 edition was held entirely in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). While the 2021 IPL was initially scheduled to be held behind closed doors in India, the league had to be postponed halfway due to the rising number of cases within the bio-bubbles amid the deadly second wave of the virus in the country.

It was then restarted and completed later in the year in the United Arab Emirates.

Recently, the Indian Cricket Board recently postponed all upcoming domestic tournaments including the Ranji Trophy due to the pandemic.
