A flood-like situation has arisen in Chennai due to the rains since Saturday morning. This is the first time the city has received so much rain since 2015. Roads and inside houses have been flooded in many areas. The administration has issued a flood warning on Sunday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is on a tour of the flood affected areas.

14 cm rain recorded in 10 hours
Chennai has recorded 14 cm of rain from Saturday night till 1 pm on Sunday. People are being shifted to a safer place in Anna Nagar, while officials are considering releasing water from Chembarakkam lake. State water resource authorities have suggested the district authorities of Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur to move people living in low-lying areas to safer places. People have parked their vehicles on the Velachery flyover in Chennai.

The average rainfall in the state is 41% more
The Northeast Monsoon has been active over Tamil Nadu for the past few days, causing heavy rains in the state. The government said that the state has received 41% more rainfall than the average. Low pressure has also been forecast in the Bay of Bengal on November 9. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the formation of a cyclonic system, heavy rains have been recorded in Chennai. Due to the North East Monsoon, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu from November 9 to 11.

Flood situation in these areas
Heavy rains have created a flood situation in Egmore, Downton, KN Garden, Padalam, Oteri Left Bridge, Padi Bridge, Satya Nagar Shelter, Baba Nagar, GKM Colony and Jawahar Nagar areas. A flood alert has been issued in these areas.

4 teams of rescue teams deployed in the city
Four teams of NDRF have been deployed in the city so that they can carry out the rescue operation in case of emergency. One each in Chengalpet and Tiruvallur and two teams have been deployed in Madurai. Chennai’s Mylapore has received 226 mm, Ambattur 2205 mm, Nangambakkam 207 mm. 4000 cusecs of water has been released from Poondi lake.
