‘First Time in 75 years…’: CM Kejriwal Writes to PM, Says ‘Don’t Stop Delhi Budget’

Speaking at a News18 event on Monday, Kejriwal alleged that the Center was resorting to “hooliganism” and said it was for the first time in the country’s history that a government’s budget has been put on hold.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Not stopping the Delhi budget” amid a growing rift between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center over the issue.

The Delhi government’s budget for 2023-24 was scheduled to be presented on Tuesday, but has been put on hold due to allegations over allocations under various heads by the Kejriwal government and the central government.

In his letter, Kejriwal said: “This is the first time in the last 75 years that the budget of a state has come to a standstill. Why are you angry with the people of Delhi? Do not stop the budget of Delhi. With folded hands, Delhiites urge you to pass your budget.” Lashing out at the chief minister’s centre, home ministry sources said the ministry has sought an explanation from the AAP government as its budget proposal has high allocation for advertising and relatively low The money was for infrastructure and other development initiatives.

Speaking at a News18 event on Monday, Kejriwal alleged that the Center was resorting to “hooliganism” and said it was the first time in the country’s history that a government’s budget was put on hold.

A video clip of his speech was tweeted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Delhi government sources said the budget has been stalled by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and it will not be presented in the assembly on Tuesday.
