New Delhi: Finance Ministry On Tuesday, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) was directed to conduct examinations for clerical cadre in public sector banks (PSBs) till a final view on conducting tests in regional languages ​​is taken.
In a statement, the Finance Ministry said that a committee has been constituted to look into the matter thoroughly to consider the demand for conducting examinations in local/regional languages ​​for clerical cadre in public sector banks.
“The committee will give its recommendations within 15 days. The ongoing process of conducting the examination initiated by IBPS will be put on hold till the recommendations of the committee are made available,” the committee said.
Recently, IBPS released an advertisement for conducting an examination in only two languages ​​- English and Hindi for recruitment to the clerical cadre of PSBs.
There has been a demand to include other recognized regional languages, especially from the southern states, for the conduct of the Bank Clerk Cadre. There are 22 languages ​​recognized by the Constitution of India.
In July 2019, the Finance Minister had assured Parliament that the recruitment test for employment in Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) would be conducted in regional languages ​​other than English and Hindi.
With a view to provide an equal opportunity to the local youth to avail employment opportunities, the Government decided in 2019 to conduct examinations in 13 regional languages, including Konkani and Kannada, for the recruitment of Office Assistant and Officer Scale I in RRBs. Will. Apart from Hindi and English.
Since then exams are being conducted for these recruitments in regional languages ​​also.
