Dr. Biju further said that if the matter had happened outside Kerala, the progressive side of the state would have been seen.

As students at the KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts in Kottayam stage a protest against the administration alleging caste discrimination, several celebrities are coming forward to criticize the management. The ruckus has been going on for some time now and students as well as administration staff have accused the director of the institute Shankar Mohan and his wife of caste discrimination. Chairman Adoor Gopalakrishnan has been accused of defending Shankar Mohan and allegedly making derogatory remarks about women employees of the institute.

Now film director Dr. Biju (Bijukumar Damodaran) has targeted the institute as well as Gopalakrishnan through a sarcastic post without naming anyone. The filmmaker has questioned intellectuals in Kerala who he believes are silent on the issue. Dr. Biju in his post narrated the entire sequence of events from the director of the institute showing signs of caste discrimination to the Chairman making objectionable remarks on the dress of women.

He then said that if the matter had happened outside Kerala, the “progressive side” of the state would have been seen, but since it happened in the state, “progressive people” are silent.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised Adoor Gopalakrishnan amid criticism of the world-renowned filmmaker. The CM called Gopalakrishnan “the face of Malayalam cinema” in the international arena. Vijayan said, “He has always had an insatiable passion for cinema.” Students of KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts and many others feel that CM Vijayan should not have praised the director at a time when he was embroiled in a major controversy.
