Feel India could have done better in white-ball cricket: Aakash Chopra on Ravi Shastri’s legacy as India coach

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra analyzed the ups and downs of Ravi Shastri’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The legendary cricketer will coach the Indian team for the last time on Monday in the ongoing match against Namibia. t20 world cup. The great batsman Rahul Dravid will take charge of the team after Shastri’s departure.

Shastri’s legacy with the Indian team will end on a dull note as the Men in Blue failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the ongoing T20 World Cup. This is the first time since the 2012 T20 World Cup that India failed to qualify for the knockout stage in ICC events.

Former cricket commentator Aakash Chopra spoke about Shastri’s legacy on his Youtube channel and said that the 2021 T20WC will be his only regret.

“Ravi Shastri will not be seen as the Indian coach after this. If you talk about World Cup or ICC events, you could have won at least one trophy out of three, be it the 2019 World Cup or the ICC Mace or this World Cup. If you play three World Cups and don’t win one of them and you don’t qualify in even one, that could be their only regret,” Chopra said.

Chopra spoke about Shastri’s legacy in white-ball cricket and said that he could have done better in limited overs. The former openers claimed that India did not play a different brand of cricket during Shastri’s tenure.

“I think India could have done better in white-ball cricket. We have won bilateral series time and again, be it ODIs or T20Is. But the one legacy that Ravi Shastri didn’t leave behind was that the team didn’t start playing a different brand of cricket.”

Chopra, however, reflected on Shastri’s stint in Test cricket and said that he made a very good team for the red-ball format as they registered emphatic series wins in Australia and did very well in England this year.

“They made a very good Test team. The Indian team went to Australia and beat them twice, something no one has done before. We played well in England.”

“We should have won in South Africa, if we had selected a little better, we could have won. I think when we go there under the guidance of Rahul Dravid, we will also win. It won’t be that easy, his team has become better. We could not win New Zealand,” he concluded.
