Fazilnagar Election Result 2022: Swami Prasad Maurya of Samajwadi Party lost from the seat

new Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh minister and Samajwadi Party candidate Swami Prasad Maurya lost from Fazilnagar seat of Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Surendra Singh Kushwaha of BJP won from Fazilnagar seat.

The OBC leader joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) a few weeks before the UP elections. He had said that he left the BJP because of “gross disregard” for Dalits, backwards, farmers, unemployed youth and small traders.

Three other BJP MLAs — Roshan Lal Verma, Brijesh Prajapati and Bhagwati Prasad Sagar – also followed Maurya.

Hailing from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, Maurya had joined the BJP from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) before the 2017 assembly elections.

“I have worked with responsibility and dedication in the cabinet of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as Labor and Employment Minister even in adverse circumstances and ideological positions, but not for Dalits, Backward, Farmers, Unemployed, Youth as well as small traders. Maurya had said in his resignation letter, I resign from the cabinet of Uttar Pradesh.

He has been a five-time MLA from Padrauna, while his daughter Sanghamitra Maurya is a BJP MP and represents Badaun in the Lok Sabha.

Congress has fielded Manoj Kumar Singh from this seat, while Bahujan Samaj Party’s candidate is Ilyas Ansari. BJP has nominated Surendra Singh Kushwaha as its candidate from this seat.

The Fazilnagar assembly constituency has about 90,000 Muslim voters, 55,000 Maurya Kushwahas, 50,000 Yadavs, 30,000 Brahmins, 40,000 Kurmi-Sainthwars, 30,000 Vaishyas and about 80,000 Dalits.
