Bajrang Punia is the first Indian to become the world’s No. 1 wrestler in any category. Apart from this, he is also the first Indian to win two World Championship medals and wrestle in the famous German league. Coming from a simple family of Jhajjar district of Haryana, Bajrang Punia initially did not have money to buy cricket and badminton items.

At that time children were very much interested in Kabaddi and Wrestling and it was prevalent in the village of Poonia. However, his father Balwan Singh was also a wrestler and young Bajrang used to drop out of school to watch his wrestling. Bajrang had also said that I do not know when wrestling became a part of my life.

Bajrang Poonia was born on 26 February 1994 in Jhajjar village of Haryana. His father’s name is Balwan Singh Poonia. His father is a professional wrestler. His mother’s name is Om Pyari. His brother’s name is Harinder Poonia. Bajrang inherited wrestling. The financial condition of his family was weak. Bajrang’s early education was completed in the village itself.

Bajrang started wrestling at the age of 7 and got a lot of support from his father. Bajrang did his graduation from Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak. Poonia also worked as a Ticket Checker (TTE) in the Indian Railways.
