Father’s Day 2022: A shoulder to cry on, the support system, the backbone of the family and what not, a father plays many roles throughout his life and is rarely credited. Fathers are really special and we celebrate Father’s Day every year to acknowledge and appreciate their roles not only in families but also in society. Father’s Day: History
Did you know that Father’s Day was first celebrated in the United States, on July 5, 1908, after a mining accident that killed hundreds of people? Grace Golden, the daughter of a devoted minister, proposed Sunday service for all the men who lost their lives in the tragic accident, according to the almanac.
Years later, Sonora Smart Dodd suggested the idea of celebrating Father’s Day because she wanted to honor her father, William Jackson Smart. Dodd’s father was a Civil War veteran who raised him and his five siblings as single parents. After his education, Dodd began promoting Father’s Day nationally.
When did the popularity of Father’s Day start?
It gained popularity when former US President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation in the year 1972, after which people started celebrating Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June every year.
How to celebrate Father’s Day?
While you don’t need a day to express your love and care for your father, you can certainly rise to the occasion by making this day special for him. While children can give cards, gifts and flowers to their father, people can also plan a dinner date or family dinner or any kind of outing. There are many gift ideas too. However, given our busy lifestyles, the biggest gift you can give your father is some quality time.
