Yuzvendra Chahal targeted the selection committee

Rajasthan’s Rahul Chahar has been included in the 15-man squad in place of Chahal.

Days after he was dropped from the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has taken a dig at the selection committee. Chahal replied to a tweet by former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra in which he made his observation about the exotic conditions for bowlers.

Chahal’s exit from the ICC event came as a shock to cricket fans as he is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals. Rajasthan’s Rahul Chahar has been included in the 15-man squad in place of Chahal.

The BCCI announced the squad for the big international cricket event on 8 September. The next day, chief Indian selector Chetan Sharma said that the committee wanted to go ahead with someone who bowled fast in the air and thus, Rahul Chahar was given priority over Chahal.

Apart from Chetan Sharma, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra also believes that fast spinners can make an impact on foreign pitches. Both – the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and the ICC T20 World Cup – will be played in the United Arab Emirates. Some matches of the T20 World Cup will be played in Oman, but the matches of the Indian team will be in UAE.

A week later, Chahal took a jibe at the selection committee, replying to a tweet by commentator Aakash Chopra. The former cricketer has given four main advice to IPL teams by analyzing the basis of the first 30 matches of IPL 2020. On this tweet, Chahal questioned the need for ‘fast spinners’.

Later, Chopra replied to Chahal’s tweet saying that his findings do not apply to leggies.

Chahal will now be seen in action for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the second leg of IPL 2021, which is scheduled to begin in the UAE from September 19.
